About

Data centers are a large group of networked computers. They, at most, are used by large scaled companies and the people that work there. But they can also be used by small scaled businesses, government agencies, and so on.   They have been around since the 1940’s, and are the brain of a company. Data centers’ main purpose is to collect, store, distributing, and/or allowing access to large amounts of data.

Despite data centers being around for such a long time, they have only evolved in recent years, with the significant development and progression of technology and IT infrastructure. They are the core reason for an organization’s success level. On top of it decreasing direct costs, it decreases intangible costs as well, such as reputational damage.

Social media websites are the simplest examples to use to explain data centers. Facebook is the most used social media website today and uses over 9% of all of our internet’s traffic. When a company page posts an update, picture, or any other information, it stores it into its data center. Other examples of business that use data centers are Amazon, Google, and Yahoo. Mobile phone companies also have data centers.  A mobile phone used to be a tool just for calling. Nowadays, a mobile phone is a computer. It has internet and applications like email, Waze and a camera, where there is an exchange of information involved.

Though the IT infrastructure has been progressing and still is progressing, one must realize that there is always a chance that the most vital business information can be lost. That’s where data centers come in. By having a data center, or a server room (another name for data center), you can be assured that all your business information will be secured, monitored, and available for you to access on a 24/7 basis.
